Everything You Need to Know About Dental Implant Aftercare

No matter what medical procedure you go through, proper aftercare is extremely important. In fact, how well you take care of yourself will affect the overall healing process, and this is especially true when we talk about oral surgeries like dental implants.

Once the treatment is completed, aftercare is completely your responsibility. Good oral health is equal to optimum health of implants. For this, your doctor will give you sufficient instructions. However, for better understanding, some guidelines about dental implant aftercare are given below.

Important Dental Implant Aftercare Measures

Eating and drinking the right thing:

As soon as the procedure is complete, you can take juices and cold drinks. However, you are not supposed to eat anything until the effects of anesthesia wears off. Also, avoid taking hot drinks or food, and no matter how much you are tempted don’t rinse the operated area. It will be difficult to consume anything for the first few days, but remain calm. Try to consume as much fluids as you can as this will help with the healing process.

Deal patiently with the pain and swelling:

Since you have been through implants dentaires, it is quite obvious to experience pain and swelling. Your doctor will prescribe you some painkillers and recommend using ice pack for the first 48 hours. Follow his/her advice religiously. Nevertheless, if the pain becomes unbearable, contact your dental implant specialist immediately.

Avoid Heavy Workouts:

It is extremely important that you avoid all types of exhausting workouts for the first 48 hours. Even after this period is over, if you experience pain and bleeding while exercising, it is recommended to give yourself some more days of rest.

Avoid wearing prosthesis:

If you are using dentures, full or partial, it is ideal to avoid using them for at least 10 days. It is not ideal to put unwanted pressure on your implant.

Suffering from pain and discomfort is pretty obvious, but it will gradually subside with each passing day. Nevertheless, if you experience pain with same intensity even after a few days, it is recommended to consult your doctor. There are many painkillers which can help you deal with the pain and thereby keep you comfortable after the procedure is completed.

The success of your dental implant completely depends on the type of aftercare you take. Besides, maintaining a good oral hygiene is crucial. Once your dentist will confirm that you are healing well, he/she will recommend you common oral hygiene procedures, and that will be all.
